Ghostpine Canoe and Paddle has been around for a while now, but this is our first try at blogging. Let's see how this goes!
We've had a very, very busy summer! Getting organized for a new shop space, visiting the new Canadian Canoe Museum, travelling to the Adirondacks to the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association Assembly, and finishing work on a Chestnut Deer. Keep watching the blog for photos and info about all of these adventures! (Oh and did I mention we also got married in June?!)
On July 7 we struck out on a cross country trip aiming for upstate New York and the WCHA Assembly. With our newly restored Chestnut Deer on the roof, we spent our first night in a free campground right beside the highway at Alsask. This tiny town sits right on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan (now the name makes more sense, right?). Well at least we thought it was the campground. Turns out we'd missed it by a few hundred yards, but that's ok. We had the place to ourselves either way, and this position put us much closer to the porta-potty. A very desirable location for anyone who understands tenting!
The two of us joked that we'd found our very own "surveillance tree". If you don't know what that is, look up old episodes of a Canadian classic TV show, Corner Gas.
We'll bring you more of our cross-country adventure in upcoming blog posts, including how we indulged our love of craft beers and the small (and sometimes large) local breweries that produce them.
